December 21, 2009 - Today—the Solstice—is my first real day this year where I’m responsibility free. The 20th Annual Festival of Harps has been successfully (and miraculously) completed. I’m on break from directing my 2 youth harp ensembles—the Bay Area Youth Harp Ensemble and my newest (11 children ages 5–13; and so new we don’t even have a name) have all played beautifully out and inspired so many who’ve heard them (View photos). And last but not least, I’m on vacation from teaching too. Which adds up to late nights composing, making cookies and delivering them, a bath every morning, and more harp. My partner is on the East coast, so I’ve taken over and have a harp in every room! My favorite spot is by the Christmas tree hung with over a hundred harp ornaments given by friends and students over the years. My favorite is the dog ornament made from potato paste from Ecuador of a dog playing the harp upside-down.

I’ve heard from many sources that the configuration of planets, sun, moon and stars, is particularly potent this Solstice. So please join me in lighting a candle to honor the darkest day and the joyous return of the light. And to one and All, I wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Holidays, and a New Year—2010, filled with beauty, harmony, and great inspirations.

Bright Blessings on all you do!
